Notable increase in the number of girls in technology

How is Shkolla Digjitale helping to increase the number of girls in technology?

With the growing awareness of the importance of learning about information technology, the number of students at Shkolla Digjitale has also increased, especially girls, whose participation in most groups has increased noticeably, and currently the percentage of girls learning programming at Shkolla Digjitale is over 30%. This increase in the percentage of girls is also seen in the many events and competitions that Shkolla Digjitale organizes every year, such as: '48-Hour Hackathon', 'Girls in ICT', 'November Code Fest', 'Summer School', 'Hour of Code' and others.

This year has started with the organization of winter courses at Shkolla Digjitale in Prishtina, where over 100 students have successfully completed the intensive 5-day course in training with the most sought-after skills in the market, web design UI/UX and artificial intelligence. Among the students, a large percentage of participating girls is noticed, who make us proud with their commitment and creativity during the development of impressive projects. The teenage girls of our school have created creative and functional programs that challenge even the professional projects of local and international technology companies - including real projects for clients.

We recall that during 2023, on the occasion of Girls in ICT Day, we welcomed over 150 participants to Shkolla Digjitale in Prishtina to discuss the journey of future programmers, opportunities for girls in the ICT industry, and inspiring success stories of girls. In an effort to promote gender equality, Shkolla Digjitale has managed to increase female participation in staff and in the number of students. While female staff participation is over 56%, their percentage among students is around 30%, showing a continuous commitment to encourage and include more girls in the field of technology.

Our goal is to continue increasing the percentage of girls in the field of technology (STEM) to approach up to 50% girls and 50% boys in the number of active students at school. We invite all girls aged 8-18 to learn coding with us because our future is in your hands.
